Bring Your Child to Work Day

The College of New Jersey sponsored a series of workshops and presentations to introduce employee children to the wonderful activities and teaching skills available at the college. Professor Burroughs was asked to present her workshop on forensic analysis of bones for young children. Those who attended were presented with skeletons on which to build muscles, human bones to measure and identify, a chance to design a weight-bearing bone and test it and even to create endo- and exoskeletons, just as real animals do. The workshop ended with participants working to build the rib cage of a whale, full size. Everyone particularly enjoyed the activities where they could use their imagination and create working models! Her are some examples of external skeletons designed to support a “bag of water” body.
